It was a great shooting night for the Viking boys’ basketball team, who won their ninth-straight North Star League victory. They traveled to Fairview and came away with another impressive win, 76-57, and improved to 13-1 overall. “They played well,” said head coach Steve Hentkowski. “We shot a season-high 61 percent for the game and a season high 21 assists. The Vikes also matched a season-high of 38 percent from the three-point line, but it was the defense that stepped it up in the third quarter. Nate Lenard got the assignment of slowing down Fairview’s Luke Harris and limited him to only a second-half field goal.

“Nathan had just an awesome game,” said Hentkowski. He also was dialed in on offense with a career-best 12 assists. Jerome Ciarkowski ended with his fourth double double of the season with 25 points and 12 rebounds. David Kerr also was solid with 19 points and six rebounds. Nick Hincka helped out with 13 first half points. The score at the break was 34-32, Posen. Fairview hit a bucket at the end of regulation. “The boys had great ball movement and hustle in the game,” the coach said. Tyler Kuffel had six points and nine rebounds.

Their next game is Friday at Twining for a varsity doubleheader with the boys and girls squads. The girls start the action. Arenac Eastern doesn’t have junior varsity teams because of budget issues in the small district.
