Braylon Curtis Vogelheim, the son of Evan “Mookie” Vogelheim and Blake Bruning both of Rogers City.

Braylon, who was born Jan. 4 at 4:58 p.m., weighed 6 pounds, 5 _ ounces and was 19 _ inches in length. It’s the third year in a row the local honor has gone to a boy. He also was Alpena Regional Medical Center’s first baby of 2012. Receiving both honors was a surprise because the baby wasn’t due until Jan. 20. Blake was in labor for nearly 24 hours, before the bundle of joy was brought into the world.

“He’s healthy, there’s no problems,” said Evan. “He sleeps a lot, eats a lot, poops a lot,” Blake said with a laugh.

He’s the first baby for both young parents. Evan graduated from Rogers City High School in 2007, while Blake is a 2009 RCHS grad.

Evan’s parents are Curt and Annette Vogelheim, while Blake’s are Holly Bruning and Bruce Bruning, all of Rogers City.

Prizes were awarded to the parents this week and were from many area businesses, including: Calcite Credit Union, Bayport, Chi-Chi’s, Adrian’s Marathon, J & L Electronics, Nautical Lanes, Rogers City Ace Hardware, Karsten’s Luncheonette, A-P Chrysler Dodge, Rygwleski’s IGA, Rogers City Buick, Roostertail Restaurant, Curtis Professional Eyecare, as well as the Presque Isle County Advance, which awards a one-year subscription to the parents and will follow-up in December with another photo of baby Braylon to see how he’s doing after his first year.
