Advance rebuilds
The building which housed the Advance was built in the 1870s and had a variety of uses before Harry and his father Hal Whiteley moved the newspaper business into it in 1960.
Publisher Richard Lamb stands in the basement of the old/new Advance building before construction began in May, 2006. The new building used the foundation from the old structure, which burned in Feb. 2006
Vintage photo of the old building some 50 years before the Advance moved in and nearly 100 years before the fire which destroyed the building.
The view at 7:28 a.m., Feb. 12, 2006. The fire which consumed the Advance building, was called in shortly before 7 a.m.
Firefighters from all over the area tried to save the buildings from the Feb. 12, 2006 fire at the corner of Third and Erie.
Flames rose high as the building, constructed in the 1870s, fell to fire in Feb. 2006.
Among the few things which were salvaged from the fire was a computer, which housed the financial data and the subscription list.
A modern structure is now the home of Presque Isle Newspapers, featuring the latest computer equipment and efficient heating and cooling for the comfort of the employees.
