Leona L. Sheer
Leona L. Sheer, 83, of Tower, died at home Monday, October 22, 2018. Born in Maple City September 22, 1935, Leona was the daughter of Frank and Dorothy (Baatz) Wisniewski. Leona and Jack “Poopsy” Sheer Sr. were united in marriage June 10, 1954 at the Asbury Methodist Church in Traverse City. They made their home in Port Huron for many years before moving to Tower in 1978.
Leona was a homemaker who loved to crochet and cook for her family. Her family’s favorite dish was chicken and rice which Leona always prepared for the holidays and special occasions.
Leona’s life was her family; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were perfect and in Leona’s eyes could do no wrong. She was extremely proud of each and every one of them. She was a nurturing mother who shared a close bond with her children. She raised her family in a home filled with love and respect for each other. Leona had a big heart for helping others; each day she had a plan for helping someone. She loved spending the day shopping with her daughters, most of the time not needing to buy anything, but just content and happy to be with her girls. Leona loved to feed the deer in her backyard. She had names for each of them and was known to peel, slice, and salt the apples she fed to her backyard visitors. A humble lady who only needed her family to be happy, Leona was content with life’s simple pleasures. She will be sadly missed.
Surviving Leona are her six children, Sandra (Robert Jr.) Ransom and Esther (Paul) Ransom, both of Tower, Golda
Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, March 17, 2009; daughter-in-law, Opal Sheer; great-grandson, Mason; and brother, Arthur Wisniewski.
A celebration of life and memorial service was at the Forest Township Hall (Tower Hall) Friday, October 26. Leona’s grandson, Frank Sheer Jr. officiated.
