Virginia R. Schaedig

Virginia R. Schaedig, 92, of Ocqueoc, died Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Nash Manor Adult Foster Care Home in Onaway.  Born in Central Lake March 9, 1926, Virginia was the daughter of John “Jack” and Anna (Murray) Brown. She married Willard Schaedig at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Onaway September 6, 1952 and they made their home in Ocqueoc.

Raised in the Onaway area and a graduate of Onaway High School, Virginia furthered her education at Michigan State University where she earned her teaching credentials. She went on to teach at the Onaway Area Schools as well as working on the Schaedig farm in Ocqueoc and being a homemaker. A skilled seamstress, she sewed clothing for her family and was always knitting. She made hats, scarves, and mittens, many baby blankets, as well as items to sell at church craft bazaars.  She was an avid reader and an expert gardener. Virginia’s garden always produced an abundance of vegetables with plenty for canning and her yard was filled with beautiful flowers.

A faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Virginia was also a member of the Ladies Circle and was involved with many church activities through the years. Down-to-earth and humble, Virginia was content with the simple pleasures in life.  She was a devoted wife, a loving mother and a wonderful grandmother.  Her greatest joy and happiness came from her family. A gentle lady with a warm heart, Virginia will be fondly remembered and sadly missed.

Surviving Virginia is her daughter, Cindy Schaedig of Massachusetts; four sons, Hugh of Ocqueoc, Tim (Cass) of Littleton, Colorado, Ken (Julie) of Onaway, and Keith (Karen) of Little Rock, Arkansas; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Virginia was

preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Willard; two sisters, Eleanor Everett and Betty Brice; and brother, John Brown.

Visitation was Sunday, May 20, at the Chagnon Funeral Home in Onaway.  Virginia’s funeral service will be from Trinity Lutheran Church at beginning at Monday May 21.  The Rev. Lloyd Ziebarth officiated. Virginia’s final resting place will be at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Ocqueoc.
