Kathleen M. “Kip” Kauffman

Kathleen M. “Kip” Kauffman, 78, of Grand Lake passed away unexpectedly May 26, 2018 at MidMichigan Medical Center.

She was born May 27, 1939 in Rogers City to Lester and Mary (Kowalski) Bannon.

Kip graduated from Rogers City High School in 1957. She received her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Central Michigan University in 1961. On August 5, 1961 she married Russell J. Kauffman at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Rogers City. Kip taught elementary school downstate until she and Russ started their family. She was asked by St. Michael Catholic School in Livonia to develop its kindergarten program. She taught that program until her retirement eight years later. She and Russ moved to Grand Lake in 2003. She has been the president of the Grand Lake Association since 2005. She was active in the Presque Isle Community working in the Homestead Gift Shop, volunteering at the lighthouses, God Loves You Food Bank, and wherever she saw a need. Kip received th

Kip is survived by her husband, Russell; four children, daughter, Sally Schmidt and husband Tom, their daughters, Allison and Sarah; daughter, Leslie Myers and her daughters, Emily and Emily’s son, Andrew, Gina and Ruby; daughter, Katie Rags and husband David, their son Russell; son, John Kauffman and his daughter Rook; also survived by two brothers, Jerry Bannon and his wife Elberta; Jim Bannon and his wife Jackie; and brother-in-law, Bob Selke.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Mary; and her sister, Janice Selke.

Friends may visit at St. Ignatius Catholic Church Tuesday, June 4 from 9 a.m. until time of her memorial Mass at 10 a.m. with the Rev. James Fitzpatrick officiating.  Burial will follow at the Presque Isle Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to a charity of your choice in memory of Kathleen “Kip” Kauffman. Arrangements are in care of the Beck Funeral Home.
