He married Lynn Katherine Kosloski at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Alpena November 5, 1966.  They had over 51 wonderful years together. He graduated from Lake Superior State College in 1972 with a Bachelor of Arts in business. Before that he served in the United States Air Force as staff sergeant and spent a year in Vietnam. In later years he became 100 percent disabled from CLL because of agent orange which caused his death.

He was part owner of Alpine-North Insurance Agency from 1973-1982. He then moved his family south where he became an outside sales rep working with certified public accountants and attorneys.

Dean was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion and at one time was acting commander of the American Legion in Alpena. When he retired he became interested in carving as he had always worked with wood. He took numerous first-place ribbons in many carving shows. He then became interested in pyrography (woodburning) and made many different pieces.  He was so proud to hear (while in the hospital with severe pneumonia) last June that he had earned second place in the National Veteran Affairs Art Show for his pyrography of an American Indian.

Dean was always a “people person” and had many friends; he belonged to several carving clubs.  He and his good friend, John Bird, started the Flint Ridge Carving Club several years ago.  Dean also sculpted and was equally successful at that art form.

Dean had many friends and never knew an enemy. He is survived by his

loving wife, Lynn Katherine; their three children, John (Rachael), Sherri Karp (Brian) and James.  He dearly loved his five grandchildren, Bekah Haught(Andrew), Katie, Noah and Caleb Karp, and Jacob Strzelecki.

Surviving him, besides his immediate family are his brother, Chris (Holly) Strzelecki of Houston; and his sister, George Marietta of California; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A rosary will be held 11:30 a.m., May 14, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Siloam Springs.  A memorial service will follow at noon, also at St. Mary.
