Billie E. Morgan

Billie E. Morgan, 90, of Onaway, died Monday May 7, 2018 at McLaren Northern Michigan hospital in Petoskey.  The son of Gilbert and Beatrice (Spencer) Morgan, Billie was born in North Allis Township August 24, 1927.  On November 23, 1946 at the age of 19 he married Donna Milligan at Elder Burt’s home in Onaway.

Billie worked as a lineman at Presque Isle Electric for 33 ½ years before retiring in 1988.  Hardworking, he often spent evenings and weekends wiring homes and doing other electrical work. Billie was a member of the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ and also served for many years as the pastor of the Reorganized Church of Latter Day Saints in Onaway. Dedicated to his faith, Elder Billie Morgan was attentive in his duties as pastor and sincerely cared about his church family.

A lifelong resident of Onaway, Billie enjoyed hunting and fishing from the time he was a boy.  As he grew older he came to appreciate the peacefulness of the woods and enjoyed watching the deer, birds, and other animals. He loved tending to his garden and doing work with his tractor. Most of all, Bill Morgan cherished his family. He loved his wife, was proud of his children, and greatly enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He would get right down on the floor to play with the little ones and nothing warmed his heart more than holding his grandbabies in his arms.

With 90 years of life experience Billie could be quite set in his ways. He was quiet and

humble with a gentle heart. He was one who enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. He was a good friend who loved reminiscing and telling stories. He was a man who truly cared about people.

Surviving Billie is his wife of 71 years, Donna Morgan of Onaway; son, Mike (Donna) Morgan of Alpena; daughters, Dianne Morgan of Petoskey, Sue (Jon) Nelson of Onaway and Janet (Kevin) Horrocks of Avon, Ohio; as well as 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Billie was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Gerald Hart; sister, Lenabelle Thomas; brothers, Carl and Jack; and infant brother, Tom.

Visitation will be at the Chagnon Funeral Home from 4 – 8 p.m. today (Thursday, May 10).  Billie’s family will receive friends Friday, May 11, from noon until the time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. at the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ, 21045 M-68 Hwy., Onaway.  Elder Denise Pauly and Elder Faye Barrette will co-officiate.  Billie’s final resting place will be at North Allis Township Cemetery.
