Eugene D. Plume

Eugene D. Plume, 85, of Okemos and formerly of Lake Isabella went to be with the Lord Monday, March 5, 2018.

Eugene was born to Harry H. and Pearl V. (Walmsley) Plume January 13, 1933 in Ocqueoc. He grew up in the Millersburg area and attended Vilburn, Ocqueoc, Millersburg and Onaway schools. He graduated from Presque Isle County Normal Training School and taught first-sixth grades in a rural school before serving in the U.S. Army.

Gene served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from September 5, 1953 to September 4, 1955 and was presented an Honorable Discharge June 6, 1962.  After returning from the service, he was employed at Alpena Supply in customer sales, warehouse supervisor and management.  Later he moved to Mt. Pleasant and worked for Milan Supply as a sales representative. Over the years he was involved in the Boy Scouts of America and provided maintenance for the Christian camping program at Brook Cherith Camp in Pierson; sharing his love for the great outdoors – God’s creation.

His most cherished times were spent fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family.

On June 18, 1954 Gene married Virginia M. Garms, the love of his life, in Onaway, they were married for 62 years.

Gene is survived by a son, Harry E. (Ruth) Plume of Alpena; three daughters, Debra A. Pinkel of Lansing, Mary Kaye Plume of Shepherd and Valerie L. Biddinger of Cedarville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren, Jessica Pinkel, Cassie Pinkel, Jonathan Pinkel, Andrea (Todd) Griffin, Lisa Plume, Bryan Plume, Ryan (Brianna) Biddinger, Stefan Biddinger, Andrew (Katlyn Dye) Biddinger and Julia Biddinger; two great-grandchildre

n Jace and Gwyneth Griffin; brothers, Garnet and Robert Plume; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Harry H. and Pearl V. (Walmsley) Plume; and his beloved wife, Virginia M. (Garms) Plume.

Funeral service celebrating Gene’s life was Saturday, March 10, at the Weidman Baptist Church on 7555 W. Airline Road with the Rev. Dean Willard officiating.  The family met with friends before the service.

Memorial donation in Gene’s honor may be made to the Great Lakes Christian Homes. Envelopes will be available at the church and funeral home.
