On April 8, 1948 Mervyn married Joyce M. Pedler in Caseville.  They made their home in Huron County, raised three daughters, and worked as farmers.  In 1964 Merv moved to Onaway and became the owner of the Charcoal Room Restaurant that is presently Wood Winds Restaurant and Pizzeria.  Eventually he took a position at the UAW Education Center at Black Lake where he worked as a supervisor until retiring in 1989.

Mervyn was a longtime member of the Community of Christ Church in Onaway.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing; nothing made him happier than standing in a trout stream and casting a li

ne.  He was a regular at the coffee shop each morning where he would enjoy breakfast, coffee and sharing stories with the other regulars. A friendly guy with a warm smile, Mervyn seemed to know everyone in town.

Surviving Mervyn are his wife of 44 years; Marion Horton of Onaway; his three daughters; Linda, Carol and Marlene Horton, all of Onaway; step-children, Barbara Sova of Marysville, Harry Lee Waldie, Bobby Joe Waldie and Jeannie Brewbaker, all of Onaway; as well as 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  Mervyn was preceded in death by his brother; Wayne and former wife, Joyce Horton Cook.

As were Mervyn’s wishes, cremation has taken place.  A memorial service will be held at a later date.  Those planning an expression of sympathy please consider a donation in memory of Mervyn to Community of Christ Church in Onaway.  Merv’s final resting place will be at the Caseville Township Cemetery.
