Joyce Elizabeth Hoffer

Joyce Elizabeth Hoffer, 85, passed away on November 2, 2017 in Englewood, Colorado.  She was born in1932 in Goodrich, Michigan, but grew up in Rogers City.  Joyce was the daughter of Milton J. Hoffer and Leah B. Hoffer, longtime residents of Rogers City.

Joyce earned a Bachelor of Music from Central Michigan University and a master’s in music education from Michigan State University. Joyce was an elementary music teacher in Michigan and, for many years, on Mercer Island, Washington. She was a Fellow in the Washington Music Teachers Hall of Fame. She was very active in the Sand Point Methodist Church in Seattle. She loved to travel, and eventually travelled to all continents except Antarctica.

Joyce is survived by her brother, Roger Hoffer of Littleton, Colorado; and three nephews, Phil, Doug and Steven Hoffer, and their families. She is also survived by her longtime and dear friend, Belva Baxter of Englewood.

A memorial service to celebrate Joyce’s life will be held November 10 in Englewood. Contributions can be made to the Joyce E. Hoffer Music Scholarship, Central Michigan University, Mt. Pleasant, or to The Nature Conservancy.
