Gerry D. VanAlstine

Gerry D. VanAlstine, 84, of Onaway, died at home Thursday, July 13, 2017.  The son of Warren and Ethel (Brewer) VanAlstine, Gerry was born in Webberville, May 3, 1933.

A resident of the Onaway area since 1954, Gerry worked for Cheboygan Truss for over 20 years before going to work on the high lines from where he eventually retired. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Gerry enjoyed working in his large garden with plenty of tomatoes and cucumbers.  He enjoyed canning, making pickles and was a great cook.

Surviving Gerry are his daughters, Doris Ann Chapp of Alpena and Gale Marie Suitor of Springtown, Texas; brother, Gail VanAlstine of Waterford; sister, Bethel Morris of Cheboygan; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Gerry was preceded in death by his son, Warren Edward VanAlstine; brothers, Glen, Gerald, George and infant brother, Grant; and sisters, Beulah Povey and Marie VanAlstine.

Cremation arrangements were in care of the Chagnon Funeral Home.  A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 21, at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Tower.
