Judy LaReign Hale

Judy LaReign Hale, 77, of Tower, died at home Saturday February 4, 2017.  Born February 11, 1939 in Rogers City and raised in Millersburg, Judy was the daughter of Leonard and Joyce (Freel) Boucher.

She married Frank J. Hale Jr. April 27, 1957 in Roseville where she and Frank made their home for many years before returning home to northern Michigan.

Besides being a homemaker, Judy worked in the banking industry as a senior teller and loan officer and then from 1977-1985 owned and operated the “Welcome Inn” in Millersburg. With her family roots deep in the community, Judy had a special place in her heart for Millersburg.

She was instrumental in forming the Millersburg-Ocqueoc Business Association and founding and planning Millersburg’s Iceburg Festival. She also was involved with the youth of the community, serving as a Girl Scout leader for several years.

Devoted to her Christian faith, Judy was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Onaway.  She was a loyal friend, had integrity and was honest. There was never a question of where you stood with Judy!

Loving and caring, Judy was always concerned for the well-being of others, especially Frank, her boys and her grandchildren. She enjoyed knitting, watching tennis on television, and was a wonderful cook and baker, but most of all she loved spending time with her family.

Her friendly smile and thoughtful, nurturing heart will be sadly missed.

Surviving Judy is her husband of 60 years, Frank Hale Jr. of Tower; sons, Frank Hale III (Danielle Sun) of Sterling Heights and Jamie (Robyn) Hale of Phoenix, Arizona; and two grandchildren who she adored, Olivia and Andrew. Judy also leaves three sisters, Jean Boucher of Cheboygan and Sarah (Bruce) LeCureux and Carol Northcott, both of Onaway; brother, Ross (Julie) Boucher of Petoskey; brother-in-law, Doug (Shirley) Hale of Tower; sister-in-law, Nadine DeAngelo of Chesterfield Township; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Judy was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Boucher; mother, Joyce Boucher Sabel; stepfather, Donald S

abel; sisters, Mary Ellen Browning and Ann Gilbert; and brother, Rick Boucher.

Visitation was at the Chagnon Funeral Home Tuesday, February 7, and resumed Wednesday until the time of the funeral service at the First Baptist Church in Onaway.  The Rev. Denver DeKeyser officiated.

Judy’s final resting place will be in Millersburg at Riverside Cemetery.
