Frances Joyce Nickel

Frances Joyce Nickel, 77, of Rogers City (formerly Romulus) passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family January 31, 2017.

Beloved wife of David for 55 years; mother of Michele (Bob) Lyle, Laura Nickel and Craig (Lori) Nickel; grandmother to Nicholas, Ryan and Lynsey Lyle, Kayte Nickel, Jessica Stahl and Wayne Gilbert; sister to Gary Holliday and Clifford (Debbie) Holliday; sister-in-law to Pamela Nickel; and a loving aunt.

Preceded in death by sisters-in-law, Arlene (Norman) Buschbacher and Billie Holliday.

Fran was known by many in the area for her volunteerism, and was an active member of the Women’s Civic League for 20 years and club officer for 15 years, planning blood drives and raising funds for defibrillators for first responders, student scholarships and the women’s shelter.

She was a master gardener and member of

the Presque Isle and Rogers City Garden clubs and designed the landscaping for the band shell and assisted with the gardens at Westminster Park. Fran was a member of the historical society and was an avid bowler. She enjoyed working in her yard, was a member of the Wacky Weeders and loved spending time with family and friends.

Fran had a very loving heart, genuine kindness and a giving nature. She will be greatly missed. Private family services will be planned at a later date.
