Richard G. Allan, “Dick”, 75, of Onaway, died at home Wednesday, January 18, 2017. The son of John Thomas and Donna Shirley (Siddle) Allan, Dick was born May 23, 1941 at home in Forest Township.
Born and raised in Onaway, Dick eventually moved to Whitmore Lake where he lived for many years and worked at Hoover Universal Foam Division making seat cushions for automobiles. Dick’s heart was always in Onaway so when he retired in 2003, he moved back “home” to Forest Township. An avid hunter and fisherman, Dick loved northern Michigan and spending time in the woods. He also was a skilled woodworker and loved animals. A fun-loving guy with a great sense of humor, Dick was well-liked. He lived life to the fullest and loved his family and friends dearly.
Surviving Dick is his daughter, Jean (Dennis) Ramsey of Whitmore Lake; three sons, Richard G. II (Jody) of Georgia, John B. (Shelby) of North Carolina and Scott J. of Whitmore Lake; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; as well as two sisters, Jane (Robert) VanDoren of Manchester and Barbara Lamberson of Lake Placid, Florida; a brother, Samuel (Gail) of Waterford; and many nieces and nephews. Dick was preceded in death by his brother, John “Jack” Allan; his parents, and his cat, “Short Legs.”
Cremation arrangements are in care of the Chagnon Funeral Home. It was Dick’s wish that there be no memorial service following his death. To honor Dick’s memory and his love of animals, please consider a donation to the Cheboygan County Humane Society, 1536 E. Hackleburg Road, Cheboygan, Michigan 49721.
