Kim C. Brown

Kim C. Brown, 63, of Mt. Pleasant passed away Saturday, January 14, 2017, at Medilodge in Mt. Pleasant.  A funeral for Kim will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 21, at the United Methodist Church in Onaway with the Rev. Carmen Cook presiding, with a luncheon to follow.

A spring burial will be held at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Allis Township, Onaway.

The family received friends at the Charles R. Lux Family Funeral home in Mt. Pleasant Wednesday with a Vigil that evening, and Friday from 4-8 p.m. at the Chagnon Funeral Home in Onaway.  Visitation continues at the church on Saturday one hour prior to service.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the ARC of Central Michigan and the Onaway Fireworks fund. Envelopes will be available at the church or funeral home.

Kim was born October 10, 1953 in Bay City, son of the late Julius Brown Jr. and Marva Faye Kephart. After graduating high school from Onaway High in 1971, he attended Central Michigan University and received his bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, sociology and business administration in December of 1975.  After receiving his master’s degree in psychology in 1977 from Central Michigan University, he began working as a case manager for North East Michigan Community Mental Health from 1977 through 1990.  After 26 years of service he retired from CMHCM as a case manager.

He has 39 years of work as a social worker. In 1989 he was recognized as one of the state’s finest social workers.  He spent 25 years as a system executive director for the Miss America Pageant.  He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Mt. Pleasant and Clare fraternal of Eagles, member of national, state and local ARC, officer/president of each associated organizations.  He enjoyed bowling, dancing, golf, cribbage, poker, traveling and attending live shows and concerts. He had a love for the Red Wings hockey team and the Detroit Tigers baseball team.  He was passionate about attending Central Michigan University football games.

ificant amount of time with his nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and godchildren.  Kim is survived by his siblings, Allen N. (Linda) Brown of Swartz Creek, Michelle L. (Skeeter) Barrette of Cheboygan, Debra F. (Al) Gapczynski of Rogers City, his twin, Kevin C. (Jackie) Brown, Kyle B. (Dianna) Brown and Kurt C. (Marleen) Brown all of Onaway; nieces and nephews, Wendee, Bridgett, Kristee, Allison, Todd, Randy, Gina, Ändrea, Ben, Jacob, Rhiannon, Kylene, Nicholas, Katie and Micah; 27 great-nieces and nephews; and five godchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Marvin S. Brown.
