Walter E. Hempel Jr., 87, a 54-year resident of Shelby Twp., passed away February 26, 2016.

Surviving are his wife, Dolores; children, Alan W. (Laurie) Hempel, Randy T. (Beth) Hempel, Kent C. (Melanie) Hempel, Mary D. Hempel and Paul E. (Gayle) Hempel; four grandchildren; and brothers, Eldon (Ann) Hempel and Ronald (Sandi) Hempel. Visitation was at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 8459 Hall Rd. (three blocks east of Van Dyke) Utica Wednesday from 2 – 8 p.m.

Funeral service will be today (Thursday) at Trinity Lutheran Church, 45160 Van Dyke, Utica where he will lie in state from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. time of service.

Burial will take place in the spring at St. Michael Lutheran Cemetery Belknap in Belknap Township.
