Posen, Rogers City to meet in district finals Friday

Two county teams will square off in the district finals Friday at 7 p.m. in Rogers City. In a spirited game, the Lady Hurons defeated Onaway 53-47 in the first semifinal game and Posen blasted Wolverine 62-9 in the second game.

Rogers City used a roster of mostly junior varsity players, since eight varsity players were removed from the team by athletic director David O’Bryant after they were involved what he described as an “incident” over the weekend. The remaining two varsity players, sophomore point guard Hannah Fleming and sophomore Kayla Rabeau, who started at center, led the way for the Hurons. Rabeau scored 22 points, after being held scoreless in the first quarter. Fleming scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Junior varsity coach Sarah LaFleche guided the team after O’Bryant announced she would be head coach for the rest of the season replacing Gary Bisson.

Both teams were whistled for 20 fouls in the game. Onaway hit on 9-of-28 from the line while Rogers City connected on 11-of-26.

Onaway senior Jade Galer scored 15 points while junior center Taylor Ehrke added 13 points.

In the second game, Posen burst out to a 25-0 lead after the first quarter on the way to an easy win. Coach Karl Momrik substituted freely after using the starters for most of the first quarter. The Viking defense limited Wolverine to very few scoring chances.
