Two senior wrestlers reached the 100th-career win plateau over the weekend. Onaway senior Zeke Nave and Rogers City senior Justin Saile each reached the milestone.

Rogers City was in St. Ignace for the 37th annual Lions Club invitational where they finished third with 97 points behind Mancleona (109.5) and Gladstone (165).

Sophomore Sam Sobeck was the Hurons lone champion on the day taking first at 112 pounds. Sobeck pinned Hallee Halberg of St. Ignace in 52 seconds before defeating Zach McGown of Munising 10-4 to advance to the finals. In the finals Sobeck pinned Nathan Magnusson of Newberry in 1:31 to take the title.

The Hurons were at Charlevoix for an assembly dual Wednesday afternoon (after press time) and will be at the Marquette Challenge over the weekend.

ONAWAY WAS at the Montabella invitational over the weekend. Nave was the Cardinals lone champion at 130 pounds going 3-0 on the day. Nave pinned Eli Abbot of St. Louis in 39 seconds to start his day and notch his 100th-career victory.

“I never get tired of watching one of my guys reach a milestone like that. He is such a good kid and has wrestled through injuries so often in his career. As a sophomore he got hurt before the first tournament and although he ended the season as a state medalist he only recorded 23 wins. I am certain he would be chasing the 150 mark had that setback not happened. As a team captain he demands a lot out of his team and these guys are fortunate to have his type of leadership in the room. He does not accept excuses from anyone and that will only lead to future successes for those wrestlers further down the road,” said coach Mark Grant.
