Onaway, Rogers City remain unbeaten in conference play

In Onaway Tuesday, the Cardinals made quick work of the Pellston Hornets winning 3-0 (25-18, 25-23, 25-17).

“You always get up for Pellston, no doubt about it. They have been our biggest rival for a long time,” said Cardinal coach Steve Watson. “They were ranked seventh. We were ranked eighth. It was tough on them tonight because they were playing without their best hitter. The cards were stacked against them. We were really mentally and physically ready for them and it was at our home court.”

In the first set, Onaway went on a 9-0 run behind the serving of Alison LaFave to go up 16-6. Setter Taylor Ehrke set up sophomore left hitter Maddie McLean for three kills in the rally.

Pellston closed to 23-17, but McLean’s cross-court kill on point 25 won the game.
