New tent up for festival Tuesday in Rogers City

The events of the Nautical City Festival in Rogers City will go on as usual, even under unusual conditions. Festival committee members had to scramble to secure a replacement tent at Lakeside Park after a high wind blew the original tent into shreds Sunday.

A crew, including members of the Rogers City High School wrestling team, assisted Nautical Festival committee member Mike Myers in cleaning up debris Monday in preparation for installation of a replacement tent. The crew was back Tuesday morning working on fencing and scrambling to get the tent ready for Tuesday’s activities.

Crews from ABO Tent Events out of Saginaw arrived around 2:30 p.m. Monday with a tent.  By Tuesday morning a 80-by-120-foot tent was up. The normal festival tent is 80 by 270 feet.

Another 60-by-150 foot tent will be butted up to the 80-by-120-footer to give the same length as usual, but it will be a little more narrow on the end toward the dance floor, Myers said.

The two tents will be butted up to one another with some poles in the way, Myers is hopeful to create at least two 20-foot openings between the two tents. The electricians were busy hustling Tuesday morning to get lights hooked up for Tuesday’s events, a job they normally tackle Monday and Tuesday.
