The Rogers City Area Chamber of Commerce has a new brand, a new logo and a new slogan. When the chamber recently restructured its committees, it created a marketing committee chaired by Mary Pritchard, the owner of Domaci Gallery.

“When we formed the marketing committee Mary really felt we needed a stronger brand. She brought in information about branding and how important it was,” said chamber executive director Alexa Donakowski.

With a committee of 15 members, some off the chamber board and others volunteers from the community, the marketing committee agreed that coming up with a new brand for the chamber was a good idea. After getting support from the chamber board the committee got working on the project.

“We felt that our former logo didn’t represent the whole community,” said Donakowski. The former logo featured a Great Lakes Freighter and the slogan “Connect. Grow. Succeed.”

“The shipping industry is a big part of Rogers City’s past, present and future but we felt we needed better representation for all the businesses in the area,” said Donakowski.

The committee started with eight different logo designs and more than 50 slogan ideas before narrowing it down to eight of each and voting for the top one to recommend to the chamber board for approval.

The new logo is an abstract rendering of a shoreline and says “Live Slow. Reconnect. Seachange.”

“Round like the sun with the colors of the sunrise and the lakeshore. The tagline speaks directly to our target customer. It is bold, creative and confident. It instigates curiosity,” stated Pritchard, who designed the logo.

One of the goals the chamber has for this year is to help increase tourism to the area, which it feels would benefit everyone from businesses to organizations and the area as a whole.

“By highlighting the area and making that our brand we can create awareness and interest more effectively. Each chamber I have come across in my research is unique. For some, tourism doesn’t fall under their mission; for others, it is their main objective. I believe that tourism falls in line with what we want to accomplish at our chamber. It is our job to be an advocate, resource and opportunity for our members. I want more people to visit Rogers City and I want to see more people move here. If we can accomplish that then it will have a ripple effect and positively impact all of our members. Increasing our awareness through this brand is the first step towards making that h
