Leona E. “Onie” Pomranke

Leona E. “Onie” Pomranke, 74, of Onaway, died at home Monday March 30, 2015. The daughter of Leonard and Laurabelle (Middaugh) Rieger, Leona was born Thursday, September 19, 1940 at her family home in Millersburg.

Surviving is her daughter, Rhonda (Karl) Griffin of Onaway; a son, Randy Pomranke of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Karl Jr., Blaine Preston, Blair Griffin; and a great-granddaughter, Gabrielle Preston. Onie also leaves brothers, Rolland Rieger of Millersburg, Leonard Jr. (Linda) Rieger of Onaway; as well as sisters, Geraldine (Les) Kranzo of Hawks, Sharon (Bud) Johnston of Crystal Falls and Deborah (Stan) Kreft of Onaway; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held at the Chagnon Funeral Home Friday, April 3, and resumed Saturday April 4 until the time of the funeral service at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Onaway.

The Rev. Josh Ketelsen officiated. Onie’s final resting place was at the Riverside Cemetery in Millersburg. Her family has suggested donations to honor the memory of Leona be made to the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Onaway or to the family.
