Students sent home after lunchroom fire at RCHS

High school and middle school students were sent home after a fire in the lunchroom at Rogers City High School Tuesday morning. The fire in the former home economics room, renovated in recent years to be used as a lunch room. was called in shortly after 9 a.m.

Firemen were able to quickly put out the fire, but smoke throughout the school caused the students in the 6-12 public school were first evacuated to the elementary school, and then dismissed at 10:45 a.m.. The rest of the schools are on a normal schedule.

There were no injuries reported.

School had been closed last Thursday, Friday and again Monday due to cold weather. Now grades 6-12 have at least another day off, due to the fire. Word from the schools this afternoon is that the scheduled basketball game between Rogers City and Posen boys is still on for tonight at RCHS.
