Nave, Traynham earn Dick Dunn titles

Onaway hosted the Dick Dunn Memorial wrestling invitational Saturday and crowned two champions with junior Isaac Nave and senior Joe Traynham winning titles.

Nave won the 125 pound weight class going a perfect 5-0 on the day. Traynham won the 119 pound weight class going 4-0 on the day.

“Joe and Isaac were not really tested on the day. They both won the

ir brackets finishing undefeated,” said coach Grant.

Senior Raymond Self was third at 130 pounds. Freshman Lucas Tollini was second at 171 pounds and senior Elijah Shockley was second at 189 pounds.

“Lucas is settling in to his new weight class and making progress everyday. Elijah continues to give more experienced kids a struggle as he uses his strength and altheticism along with what he has learned to grow very quickly in the sport,” said coach Grant.

Jesse Watson was 1-4 at 135 pounds. “Jesse had a nice win his last match as he reinstates himself in the lineup,” said coach Grant.

The Cardinal wrestling team is in Sanford Meridian this weekend and will host a tri-meet Wednesday against Rogers City and Oscoda beginning at 6 p.m. It will be the final home match of the season for the Cardinals.
