Coach Marty Mix said the win wasn’t pretty but his kids found a way to win. “I didn’t have them as well prepared as they needed to be. I didn’t have the right game plan but the kids found a way to win. That is something I need to get better at,” said Mix.

The Cardinals led 14-10 after the first quarter and 26-23 at halftime. At the end of three quarters it was 38-29 as the Cardinals expanded their lead to go on and earn the win.

Senior Lexi Szymoniak led the scoring attack with 14 points while seniors Shelby Wolgast and Morganne Badgero each added 9.

“My kids do what they are told to do

. I couldn’t be happier that they answered the call and found a way to win at home. We are growing as a team each day and figuring out what we need to get better at and what we are good at. They are exceptional teammates to each other,” said coach Mix.

MONDAY THE Cardinals traveled to Forest Area and led 12-7 after the first quarter and 26-17 at the end of the half. They expanded the lead, outscoring the Ironmen 18-2 to take a 44-19 lead after three quarters and roll to the 56-24 win.

Junior Jade Galer led the scoring attack with 18 points. Badgero added 15 and Szymoniak had 11.

The Lady Cardinals have three home games in the next week. They host Gaylord St. Mary tonight (Friday), Wolverine Monday and Johannesburg Lewiston Wednesday. All junior varsity contests begin at 6 p.m. followed by the varsity matchups.
