Cardinals running well with conference meet Wednesday

The Onaway Cardinals cross country team continues to work hard and improve with the Ski Valley Conference meet scheduled for next Wednesday in Central Lake.

“The kids are running well and getting prepared to keep the momentum going towards conference,” said coach Marty Mix.

Saturday the team was in Boyne Falls for the Logger Invitational. The boys’ team placed fifth out of 17 teams. The race featured 105 runners and the Cardinals were led by junior Morgan McLean who finished in 14th place. Senior Joe Traynham was 30th while Seth Satchwell was 34th.

Preston Badgero was 45th and Troy Klein was 53rd to round out scoring for the Cardinals. Cameron Horn was 61st, Kyle Campbell was 73rd and Cody Neelis was 7

4th.

The girls’ team was sixth of 17 teams and in a race with 84 runners Clare Bastian led the Cardinals finishing 29th. Summer Harmon-Cooksey was 30th, Sammy Pasella was 31st and Kate Olmsted was 39th.

IN MIDDLE school action each of the runners had their personal best race. In a race featuring 79 kids Teddy Peters was 14th to lead the Cardinals. Jager Mix was 20th, Matt Grant was 24th, Cody Lovelace was 44th, Spencer Nash was 45th and Vivianna Austin was 68th.

The Cardinals were at the Mancelona Invitational Thursday (after press time) and will be at the Ski Valley Conference meet Wednesday in Central Lake. The final regular season meet of the season will be Oct. 18 at the Class D State Championships. Regionals are Oct. 24 at Central Lake.
