Cardinals do well in two meets on week

The Onaway cross country teams had two meets on the week as they ran at the Kiwanis Club/Maurice Dewey Invitational in Rogers City Saturday and were at the Inland Lakes Bulldogs Invitational Monday afternoon.

Monday the boys’ team tied Inland Lakes with 69 points while Boyne City won the meet with 28 points. Seven teams were at the invitational.

Joe Traynham led the way for the Cardinals placing second at 18:03. Morgan McLean was 13th at 19:37 and Seth Satchwell was 16th at 20:02.

Preston Badgero was 26th at 21:06 and Troy Klein was 28th at 21:21 to round out scoring for the Cardinals. Cameron Horn was 34th at 22:22 and Kyle Campbell was 44th at 24:30.

The girls’ team cannot score as a team with only four runners but still had a good showing on the day.

Claire Bastian was fifth at 23:32 to lead the team. Sam Pasella was 15th at 25:02. Kate Olmsted was 23rd at 25:58 and Summer Harmon-Cooksey was 24th at 26:16.

SATURDAY IN Rogers City Traynham put on a show winning the boys’ race with a time of 19:01, 59 seconds ahead of his closest competitor as the Cardinals won the meet with 30 points over Rogers City 44 and Oscoda 63.

McLean was fifth at 20:40, Satchwell was seventh at 21:27, Badgero was eighth at 21:31 and Horn was nin

th at 21:58 to round out the scoring for the Cardinals.

Klein was 11th at 22:33, Cody Neelis was 18th at 26:41 and Campbell was 19th at 27:45.

The girls’ team finished in second place with 44 points behind Rogers City with 25 but ahead of Oscoda with 60.

Bastian was fourth at 24:25 while Pasella was not far behind finishing fifth at 25:45. Olmsted was ninth at 27:12 and Harmon-Cooksey was 12th at 28:50. The final score added for the Cardinals was 14th, as there were 13 girls in the race, Onaway was given 14 points for their fifth score.

THE CARDINALS will travel to the Central Lake Invitational Saturday at 10 a.m. for their only action of the week.
