Mid-summer traffic counts begin at 3rd and Erie

Staff from the Michigan Department of Transportation was at the intersection of Third and Erie Wednesday, setting up hose counters in all directions.

The agency will be conducting traffic counts as part of the 90- to 120-day study in downtown Rogers City.

JIM COOK of MDOT placed hose counters at the intersection of Third and Erie. He also programmed counter boxes to keep traffic of vehicle movement.

The counters will automatically keep track of the activity, but Monday and Tuesday staff will be back to manually track the vehicles turning, what directions, and the vehicles that drive through.

The manual counts will be from 7 to 9 a.m., 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 6 p.m.
