Proclamation approved for state champs

Three days after the players from the Huron Softball team celebrated the program’s first state title in East Lansing, the girls were in council chambers at Rogers City Hall to receive a very special honor.

A council proclamation was approved establishing June 17, 2014 as “State Champion Huron Girls’ Softball Day” in the city of Rogers City.

The girls let out a gasp of surprise when mayor Tom Sobeck read that portion and then started clapping.

“You have been a credit to your teammates, your families and you community. You have showed a small confident group of kids can do great kids when they put their minds to it and work together. You should be commended.”

The entire team, and everyone player was in attendance wearing their orange jerseys, said “thank you” in unison.

Captain Cassie Brege was quickly elected to go up and get it from the mayor.
