Cardinals rained out in home action, busy week ahead

The Onaway Cardinal softball team hasn’t played ball since Saturday. They were rained out in a home doubleheader with Gaylord St. Mary Monday. They were supposed to travel to Johannesburg-Lewiston Thursday (after press time) but on cold rainy day that was unlikely. Today (Friday) they are in Pellston and Saturday they will travel to the Maris Spaulding Memorial Invitational in Central Lake.

Last Saturday in Posen the Cardinals started the day facing the host Vikings. Going into the top of the seventh inning Onaway trailed 3-2 but Posen’s bats came alive and the final score was 9-2. The game was much closer than the final score may indicate.

Skylar Butler pitched the entire game, allowing 15 hits with seven strikeouts and three walks. Butler also led the offense as she went two-for-three. Ashley LaLonde, Lexi Szymoniak, Oliva McDonald and Taylor Ehrke each

added a hit in the loss.

In the second game of the tournament the Cardinals defeated Superior Central 10-7. Butler earned the win on the mound going all seven innings, allowing nine hits and four walks while striking out six.

McDonald was three-for-four with a solo homerun, a double and two runs scored. Jade Galer was three-for-four with two doubles and two runs scored. Szymoniak was two-for-three with a run scored. Erika Price was one-for-three with a solo home run.

Lindsay LaLonde was one-for-four with a double and a run scored. Ehrke had a hit and scored a run and Ashley LaLonde had a hit.

The Cardinals are now 3-10 overall and will host Mancelona Monday.
