The Viking girls’ basketball team fared rather well in the absence of all-state center Korynn Hincka, who left Monday’s game early with a stomach ailment. She left two minutes into the game and did not return. Yet, the Lady Vikings (12-0, 8-0) cruised to another easy win, 60-38, at Oscoda behind a career-high 22 points by Ashley Meyers. It was the 56th straight North Star League win and an impressive victory for a team fighting different sicknesses.

SENIOR ASHLEY Meyers had a career-high 22 in Monday’s win over Oscoda.

“We have too many kids sick,” said Posen head coach Karl Momrik.

The Vikings continue to have a one-game lead in the conference over Arenac Eastern and are ranked second in the Associated Press Class D rankings behind Crystal Falls Forest Park.

Hincka went to the hospital two minutes into the contest to give the Posen faithful a scare. She put in eight points in  her short time on the floor, which got the club headed in the right direction and fueled another hot start.

Momrik’s crew doubled a 10-point lead in the second quarter and to

ok a 37-16 advantage into the half. They baffled the Lady Owls by switching defenses and mixing things up.

“The girls did a great job,” said Momrik. The score after three quarters was 51-28. Monica Bartz scored eight points.

Momrik said Hincka should be ready to go in Thursday’s game against Mio. It is a game that has been rescheduled several times. They have a key encounter at Alcona Monday evening. It’s where they preserved a 20-0 record last season, and will need to be healthy and have a good game from everyone to keep the undefeated season going.

The junior varsity also won 44-41.
