The deadline for candidates to file for the vacant city manager position in Rogers City has passed and George Korthauer of the Michigan Municipal League, who is conducting the search on behalf of the city, has told the council 27 candidates have applied.

He will be going through the applications and breaking them down to a smaller number of which will be interviewed, likely in mid-February.

Interim city manager Terri Koss reported to the City Council last Tuesday that she had expected to have a breakdown from Korthauer prior to the meeting but had not received it yet. As of this Tuesday she still had not received it.

Koss is hopeful she will have more information to provide the council with by its next meeting Jan. 21 at 7 p.m.

The city had to wait to go through the application process until they had the entire council seated. With the appointment of Scott McLennan to the vacant seat last week the search can now move forward.

Former city manager Mark Slown left at the end of September, 2013 after accepting the job as Ishpeming’s city manager. Koss, the city clerk/treasurer, has been serving in an interim roll since then.
