Hurons girls team competes at state meet

Huron girls braved a muddy course at the Division IV cross country finals in Brooklyn Saturday. The team finished 25 out of 27 teams which qualified for the state finals.

Top finisher freshman was Emily Malocha who placed 84th overall and 59th in the team results with a time of 21:25.5.

She had splits of 6:37 at the one-mile mark, 7:02 for the second mile and 7:12 for the third mile. Other finishers for the Hurons (place, name, time) were: 120,  Sami Bober, 23:27.5; 138, Rebecca Myers, 24:16.0; 149, Victoria Bullock, 24:39.9; 154 Amber Wirgau, 25:00.4; 160, Alysse Hempel, 25:22.1;  173, Amber Nowicki, 25:47.4.

Beal City won the team event with a team score of 120 while the Hurons had a team score of 620.

Onaway’s Joe Traynham placed 92nd in the boys’ Division IV race with a time of 18:13.6.
