Community mourns death of fifth-grader

Students at St. Ignatius Catholic School in Rogers City are receiving grief counseling to help them deal with the death of one of their own.

The sheriff’s department has not released details on the death of Wyatt Saile, a fifth-grader at St. Ignatius Catholic School.

Saile, who is the son of Wayne and Shannon Saile, was remembered by teachers as being “happy,” “energetic,” “smiley,” “always willing to help,” and “athletic.” He was student in Mrs. Leow’s class.

A letter from principal Amy Rabeau to parents went home with students Wednesday informing them of his passing “yesterday (Tuesday) as a result of an accident in the home,” the letter states.

Grief

counselors from the Diocese of Gaylord and the Presque Isle-Otsego-Cheboygan Intermediate School District were on-site Wednesday morning to make themselves available to students.

“The school’s crisis team met early this (Wednesday) morning and planned the procedures that will take place to help our students and staff through their grief,” the letter states.

Counselors, the trained crisis team and the caring school staff would be available in the coming days.

Saile’s three sisters, sixth-grader Brooke, and twin sisters Alexis and Jazmyn, who are in eighth-grade, also attend the school.

Funeral arrangements were not yet available when the Advance went to press.
