Miss Onaway and Little Miss Onaway Pageants set for Saturday

This Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Onaway School talent and beauty will hit the stage as ten contestants vie for the title of Miss Onaway 2013 while six young contestants vie for the title of Little Miss Onaway 2013.
The theme for the evening is “Spies Like Us” as it will feature the Miss Onaway contestants dancing to the theme from James Bond to open the evening.
Contestant number one is Kallie Rae Shimel. She is the 17-year-old daughter of Frank Shimel and Kelly Moran. Shimel will be a freshman at Grand Valley State University in the fall as she plans to study business and accounting. Her favorite school subjects are creative expression and Algebra II and her favorite teacher is Mr. Flynn.
Shimel will perform an original skit in the style of Dr. Seuss titled “Onaway: Now to Then” for her talent presentation.
Darbey Tristen Gaynor is contestant number two. She is the 16-year-old daughter of Chris Gaynor and Stacey Miller. She will be a senior at Onaway High School (OHS) in the fall. In the future she plans to attend Michigan State University to study anthropology, writing and English. Her favorite school subjects are English, writing and history and her favorite teacher is Mr. Furguson.
For her talent presentation Gaynor will sing and dance to “Somewhere Beyond the Sea.”
Contestant number three is Mary Genevieve Bandish. She is the 17-year-old daughter of Christopher and Ann Marie Bandish. In the fall she will enter her senior year at OHS. In the future she plans to attend college to pursue a degree in archaeology as well as study religion and art history.
Bandish’s favorite school subjects are civics, world history and women’s studies and her favorite teacher is Mrs. Moran. For her talent presentation she will be accompanying herself to Darius Rucker’s “Wagon Wheel.”
Kayde Middaugh, 17, the daughter of Bill and Dawn Middaugh is contestant number four. She will be a senior at OHS in the fall. After graduating from high school she plans to attend Ferris State University to pursue a career as an ultrasound technician.
Middaugh says English, math and history are her favorite school subjects and her favorite teacher is Mrs. Wregglesworth. For her talent she will be performing “Cups” from the film Pitch Perfect.
Contestant number five is Mariah Kay Ehrke. She is the 16-year-old daughter of Darin and Holly Ehrke. She will be a senior at OHS in the fall and her future plans are to attend college and pursue a career in athletic training and physical therapy.
Her favorite school subjects are math and science and her favorite teacher is Mrs. Wregglesworth. She will perform a martial arts routine for her talent presentation.
Emilee Rose Madison, 17, the daughter of Bryan Madison and Catina Madison is contestant number six. She will be a senior at OHS in the fall and in the future plans to attend Western Michigan University to study theatre and dance.
Madison’s favorite school subjects are art, human anatomy and civics and her favorite teacher is Mr. Boettger. She will sing and dance to a “Soldier Boy/Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” medley for her talent presentation.
Contestant number seven is Barbara Ruth Stitt, the 16-year-old daughter of Thomas and Ruth Stitt. Stitt will be a senior at OHS this fall and in the future plans to attend college to study criminology or social work.
Her favorite school subjects are math and civics and her favorite teachers are Ms. Makela and Mrs. Wregglesworth.
For her talent presentation she will perform an original comedy routine entitled “You Know You’re From Onaway…”
Kristy Marie Hopp, 16, the daughter of Ken and Nancy Hopp, is contestant number eight. She will be a junior at OHS in the fall and her future plans are to attend college to study physical therapy and dance.
Hopp enjoys algebra and history as her favorite subjects and her favorite teachers are Mrs. Watson and Mrs. Wregglesworth. She will be performing a lyrical dance to “Only God Could Love You More” for her talent presentation.
Contestant number nine is Madison Lee Nash. She is the 17-year-old daughter of Dennis Nash and Nikki Nash. She will be a freshman at North Central Michigan College in the fall. Her future plans are to attend New York Chiropractic College to pursue a career as a chiropractor.
Her favorite school subject is math and her favorite teacher is Mrs. Watson. For her talent presentation she will perform a skit, “O, Reginald.”
Cassidy May Hyde, 17, the daughter of Dallas and Paula Hyde is contestant number ten. She will be a freshman at Michigan Technological University in the fall where she will study engineering.
She enjoys math and chemistry in school and her favorite teacher is Mrs. Watson. For her talent presentation she will perform a piano skit to Scott Joplin’s “Maple Leaf Rag.”
CONTESTANTS IN the Miss Onaway pageant will be judged in five categories: interview, opening number dance, talent, evening gown and on-stage question. Miss Onaway 2013 will receive a $1,250 scholarship. First through third runner-ups will receive scholarships valued at $500, $250 and $100 respectively.
SIX CONTESTANTS will vie for the title of Little Miss Onaway. They will be judged in three categories: fancy dress, interview and talent. The winner will receive a $100 savings bond and the first runner-up will earn a $50 savings bond.
Contestant one is Isabelle Tucker. She is the nine-year-old daughter of Cody and Julie Hambleton. She will be in the fourth grade in the fall and she enjoys spelling as her favorite subject in school. She will dramatically read a poem during her talent presentation.
Lexus Horton, 9, the daughter of Brandon Horton and Sabrina Miller, is contestant number two. She will be a fourth-grader in the fall and enjoys math and history. She will dance to “Fireflies” by Owl City for her talent.
Contestant number three is Jerzee Hambleton. She is the seven-year-old daughter of Cody and Jul
Carlee Doan, 10, the daughter of Kirt Doan and Jackie Stump, is contestant number four. She will be in the fifth grade in the fall and enjoys math and art as her favorite subjects. She will dance to “Little Things” by One Direction for her talent.
Contestant number five is Allison Tennant. She is the six-year-old daughter of Leslie and Nichole Tennant. She will be in second grade in the fall and enjoys reading and art.
Sesalina Fenstermaker, 10, the daughter of Ron Riley and Dawn Fenstermaker, is contestant number six. She will be a sixth-grader in the fall and science and art are her favorite subjects. She will dance to “Do You Love Me” by The Contours for her talent presentation.
