Madison, Hambleton earn titles of Miss and Little Miss Onaway

Emilee Madison, the 17-year-old daughter of Bryan and Catina Madison, earned the title of Miss Onaway 2013 Saturday evening. Madison sang “Soldier Boy” by the Shirelles to begin her talent before a quick costume change and a high-energy tap dance to “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.” Madison was sponsored by 211 Bar and Grill, Black River Party Store, Clyde’s Barber Shop, Hart’s Welding and Repair, Painter Petroleum, Sunrise Communications and Tom’s Family Market. Madison will receive a $1,250 college scholarship after her reign and community service project are complete.
“It is such an honor to be Miss Onaway. All of my hard work paid off and now I get to represent my community. I also want to thank all my family and all my sponsors for helping me out so much,” said Madison.
Jerzee Hambeleton, the 7-year-old daughter of Cody and Julie Hambleton, earned the title of Little Miss Onaway. Hambleton delighted the crowd during the fancy dress portion of the competition and danced to “One In the Same” for her talent. Hambleton was sponsored by BLC Skin Care and Manzana’s Deli and received a $100 savings bond.
Mariah Ehrke won first runner-up honors for the Miss competition. Ehrke was a co-ticket sales winner and won the evening gown competition. For her talent she performed a martial arts routine, which included breaking some bricks. Ehrke is the 16-year-old daughter of Darin and Holly Ehrke. Ehrke was sponsored by Chagnon Funeral Home, Manzana’s Deli and Presque Isle Electric and Gas Co-op and received a $500 college scholarship.
Cassidy Hyde finished as the second runner-up. She shared the ticket sales award with Ehrke. She performed the “Maple Leaf Rag” on piano in the style of Charlie Chaplin. Hyde is the 17-year-old daughter of Dallas and Paula Hyde. She was sponsored by 211 Outpost, Art and Rose Nash, Hyde’s Tree Service, Schell Auto and Tom’s Family Market and received a $250 college scholarship.
Mary Bandish, the 17-year-old daughter of Christopher and Ann Marie Bandish was the third runner-up and received a $100 college scholarship. Bandish won the talent portion of the evening as she performed on guitar and sang “Wagon Wheel” by Daris Rucker. Bandish was sponsored by Sally’s Hairstyling and her family.
Kristy Hopp won the Miss Congeniality award. Hopp is the 16-year-old daughter of Ken and Nancy Hopp and performed a lyrical dance to “Only God could Love You More” for her talent presentation. Hopp was sponsored by Double D Electric, Onaway Family Dentistry, Pine Lumber and Schleben Forest Products.
Darbey Gaynor, the 16-year-old daughter of Chris Gaynor and Stacey Miller, won the photogenic award during the pageant. She was sponsored by Brewbaker’s Housing, The Doll House, Kolasa Kustoms and her family. She will receive a disk with all the photos taken of her prior to the pageant by Jessica Beamgard of M & J Photography.
Other contestants were Kallie Shimel, Kayde Middaugh, Barbara Stitt and Madison Nash.
IN THE Little Miss competition Sesliana Fenstermaker earned first runner-up honors and a $50 savings bond. Fenstermaker won the talent portion of the pageant as she danced to “Do You Love Me.” The 10-year-old daughter of Ron Riley and Dawn Fenstermaker was sponsored by Brewbaker’s Housing, Onaway Chiropractic, Onaway Custom Embroidery and her family.

A PACKED house enjoyed all the entertainment the evening had to offer which included entertainment by Miss Onaway 2012 Sara Fullerton, who danced, and Little Miss Onaway 2012 Natalie Domke, who played the piano.
The Miss contestants performed an opening number routine to “Spies Like Us” to start the evening. They also enjoyed a few moments of fun before the awards were passed out as they could go up the runway and strike a pose or dance goofy with their fellow contestants.
The night marked the end of the reign of Fullerton and Domke, who both took their farewell walks before presenting their parents with portraits. During her farewell speech Fullerton offered an important reminder to those competing; “to the 10 girls competing tonight, no matter who wins, just remember you girls are now on this journey together. Do whatever you can to make it a memorable one, I know mine was! You will grow closer to girls you never saw yourself growing close to, you will make amazing memories and my advice to you is to cherish them forever. To whoever wins the Miss Onaway 2013 title, congratulations. Do something amazing and memorable with your title. You’ll never get the opportunity to be the queen of Onaway again. Onaway, thank you for having me as your queen, I am honored and I hope I made you proud,” said Fullerton.
