Estep twins earn first-team all-state honors

Emily and Megan Estep added to their accomplishments as they were both named first-team all-state this season for softball.

Emily earned first-team honors as a pitcher as she was 17-6 on the season, allowing just 22 earned runs for an earned run average of 1.14. She allowed 90 hits in 135 innings of work while striking out 147 and walking just 26.

Emily also got it done at the plate as she led the team in runs scored with 35 and tied for the lead in triples with three, as well as leading the team with four home runs. She batted .464 on the season and also had six doubles. She led the team in stolen bases with 19 and committed just two errors in the field as she had a .953 fielding percentage.

Megan tied for the team lead in doubles with eight and led the team with 22 RBI. She hit .435 this season and committed just three errors at her second base position to end with a fielding percentage of .949. She was also second on the team in runs scored with 30.

Sam Brasseur earned honorable mention all-state accolades as a catcher. She hit .344 on the season with four doubles, a triple and two home runs. She drove in 12 runs. She committed just one error as a catcher and did not allow a stolen base this season.

 

 

Megan Estep

All three seniors were also all-region and all-district selections. They were also first-team all-conference selections in the Ski Valley Conference. All three have also been invited to participate in the Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association (MHSSCA) senior all-star game on July 24 in East Lansing.

SENIOR TEMARA Lupu also earned first-team all-conference and all-district honors this season. She batted .446 and tied for the team lead in doubles with eight. She had 20 RBI on the season.

Sophomore Morganne Badgero earned first-team all-conference and all-district honors as well. Badgero hit .365 this season an

d led the team with 74 at bats. She scored 20 runs and had seven doubles while driving in 17 runs.

Freshman Jade Galer earned second-team all-conference honors and was on the all-district team. Galer hit .486 this season for the Cardinals as she slugged four doubles and tied for the team lead with two triples. She also drove in 10 runs and scored 10 runs.

The Cardinals finished 17-6 this season and batted .356 as a unit. They will be without seniors Emily Estep, Megan Estep, Temara Lupu and Sam Brasseur as they return to action next season but will return some talented members of this year’s team.
