Estep, Traynham, O’Bradovich earn golds for OHS track team

Three members of the Onaway High School track and field team earned gold medals last week, as the Cardinals competed at meets at Inland Lakes and Johannesburg.

The OHS boys were sixth, while the girls were seventh, at Monday’s 12-team invite at Joburg. Joe Traynham led the way for the boys, winning the 3,200-meter run in 10:49.

Joe O’Bradovich was third in the shot put,  joined Rich Hoff, Jason Sigsby, and Joe Sigsby on the fourth-place 400-meter relay team, and joined Joe Sigsby, Noah Bacon, and Cody Morell on the fourth-place 1,600-meter relay team.

Hoff was fifth in the long jump and joined Traynham, Bacon, and Morgan McLean on the fifth-place 3,200-meter relay squad. O’Bradovich also tied for fifth in the high jump.

Emily Estep had a big day for the Cardinal girls, winning the 100-meter dash in 13.4 seconds, and winning the 200-meter dash in 28.1 seconds.

Estep also joined Elise Arkwood, Ashley LeCureux, and Maddie Sayers on the fourth-place 800-meter and 400-meter relay teams.

LeCureux took fifth in the 800-meter run, and joined Arkwood, Sayers, and Barb Stitt on the sixth-place 1,600-meter relay team.

Four days earlier, the track team – minus its dual-sport athletes – competed at the 12-squad Bulldog Invite at Inland Lakes. The OHS boys were sixth, while the girls finished 10th.

’ lone champion, taking first in the high jump with a leap of five feet, 10 inches, while Traynham finished third in the 3,200-meter run.

O’Bradovich, Hoff, Jason Sigsby, and Joe Sigsby finished fourth in the 800-meter relay, while O’Bradovich, Hoff, Jason Sigsby, and Morell finished sixth in the 400-meter relay.

Arkwood was the lone Cardinal to score team points in the girls’ competition, finishing sixth in the 800-meter run.

The track team was scheduled to compete yesterday (Thursday) at Inland Lakes, today (Friday) at Atlanta, and Monday at Central Lake.
