Estep ties school record as track team opens season

Emily Estep tied a 14-year old school record as the Onaway High School track team opened the season with meets Tuesday, at Fairview, and, four days earlier, at Mancelona.

Estep won the 100-meter dash at Fairview in a time of 12.6 seconds, tying a mark set by Allison Kolasa in 1999. The event was the only one in which Estep was entered, and it helped the Cardinals finish ninth among the 14 teams present.

Sam Brasseur finished third in the shot, while the girls’ 400-meter, 800-meter, and 3,200-meter relay teams all finished fifth.

The OHS boys finished sixth at the meet, paced by Joe Sigsby, Jason Sigsby, Noah Bacon, and Rich Hoff, who combined to win the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:40.8.

Joe O’Bradovich finished third in both the high jump and shot put, Joe Traynham was third in the 3,200, and O’Bradovich, Hoff, Jason Sigsby, and Cody Morell were third in the 400-meter relay.

Traynham, Bacon, Morgan McLean, and Eli Godsey were fourth in the 3,200-meter relay, while Hoff was fifth in the 400. The boys’ 1,600-meter relay team also finished fifth.

The Cardinal boys were fifth, while the girls were seventh, at the 12-team meet at Mancelona. Estep was the Cardinals lone champion, finishing first in the 100-meter dash in 13.2 seconds.

Estep also finished third in the 200, joined Ashley LeCureux, Shelby Wolgast, and Elise Arkwood on the third-place 800-meter relay team, and joined Wolgast, Arkwood, and Kallie Shimel on the third-place 400-meter relay squad.

Arkwood finished fifth in the 800. The Cards also took fifth in the girls’ 1,600-meter rel

ay.

Traynham was the top finisher among the Cardinal boys, taking second in the 3,200-meter run. Jason Sigsby was third in the boys’ 100-meter dash and fifth in the 300-meter hurdles.

Hoff, Morell, Rasheed Porter, and Jamal Porter finished third in the 800-meter relay, while Traynham, McLean, Bacon, and Godsey were third in the 3,200-meter relay.

O’Bradovich was fourth in both the high jump and the shot put, while Morell, Bacon, Joe Sigsby, and Rasheed Porter were fourth in the 1,600-meter relay. Morell was fifth in the discus, Hoff was fifth in the 400, and Traynham was fifth in the 800.

The track team was scheduled to compete at a meet yesterday (Thursday) at Inland Lakes, and will compete Monday at a meet at Johannesburg-Lewiston.
