Posen’s streak of district championships came to an end at two Friday with a 69-53 loss to Hillman in the district title game.

The Vikings came away with one of their most satisfying victories of the season in Wednesday’s Class D district semifinal win over Onaway. They were hoping momentum was on their side in the district title game against a Hillman squad they had lost twice to during the regular season.

The Vikings played better in each subsequent meeting. That is the way Friday’s game was shaping up as the game was tied through one quarter, 14-14. Senior Lucas Litwinski nailed three, 3-pointers.

Hillman went on a 13-1 run through the middle of the second quarter to go up by 14. Posen chipped away and got within six on Nick Hincka’s 3-pointer, but could get no closer.

“We had a bad stretch in the second quarter, and I

felt that is what re

ally hurt us,” said Posen coach Steve Hentkowski. “Turnovers. We came into the game, and I told them we have to keep them at 12, but we ended up with 18 for the night. I know off those 18, Hillman scored on just about every one of them.”

Nick Hincka led Posen with 19 points, while Lucas Litwinski put in 15. Travis Sharpe had a nice night with 14. Mason VanPamel had 24 for the Tigers, who move on to play at the Pellston regional. The Vikings finished 9-13 on the season.
