Drama club presents one-act comedy
The Onaway High School drama club will be presenting Alias Smedley Pewtree or The Villain of Glitter Gulch, a one-act comedy by Tim Kelly, Saturday Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. and Sunday Jan. 27 at 2 p.m.
The production was originally scheduled to be presented in November but was postponed when the Onaway High School girls’ volleyball team went to the state finals the same week. The students have been working hard to keep the play fresh as they prepare to present it.
The melodrama tells the story of Glitter Gulch, a once roaring gold mine town that has fallen on hard times. The villainous banker, Smedley Pewtree, is forcing the few families left to pay up or get out. During a fierce blizzard, the town’s people crowd into the eerie and deserted Nugget, a former gambling palace reputedly haunted by the spirits of long departed miners.
Twists and turns come out during the hilarious, over the top, action, and finally the true villain is revealed.
