Cardinal girls return to action with win at Mancelona

The Onaway High School varsity girls’ basketball team improved to 5-2 (3-2 Ski Valley Conference) Wednesday with a convincing 54-19 victory at SVC foe Mancelona.

The Cardinals opened the game with a full court press, but pulled it after only three minutes, with the game already well in hand. Kallie Shimel scored the game’s first 12 points, and finished with 14 on the night.

Erika Price scored eight points, while Ashley LeCureux had seven. Megan Estep pulled down 16 rebounds. Onaway led 22-2 after one quarter, 33-7 at the half, and 45-11 through three frames.

“The big thing for us was having everyone healthy again,” said OHS coach Marty Mix. “We went into the (holiday) break with several girls sick, but we got everyone on floor Wednesday.”
