Cardinal runners compete at Mancelona

Several members of the Onaway High School cross country team competed last Thursday at a meet at Mancelona.

Ashley LeCureux led the way for the Cardinals, finishing 20th among the 67 athletes in the girls’ race. Hannah Materna finished 22nd, Emily Estep was 50th, and Megan Estep was 59th.

Joe Traynham was the top finisher among the OHS boys, taking 25th among 74 athletes despite rolling his ankle less than one-third of the way through the race. Morgan McLean was 44th and Preston Badgero was 69th.

Matt Grant was 24th among the 56 runners in the middle school event.

The cross country team competed Wednesday afternoon at the Ski Valley Conference meet and will compete on October 20 at the MITCA small school state championships.
