Onaway High School freshman travel to Camp Daggett


The freshman class at Onaway High School spent time at Camp Daggett on Walloon Lake this Tuesday and Wednesday. The class was split into two groups with 30 students traveling to the camp each day.

Students participated in a variety of outdoor activities including a high ropes course and zip lines. “They were high anxiety activities that had the students battling their own self doubts to complete. All of the students actively participated in the activities,” said principal Marty Mix.

The students also did team work activities that helped them learn and practice skills working together to complete a task.

As these students are ma

king the transition from middle school to high school the trip is designed to help them grow as a class.

“We do this trip every year and it brings the class together as they start high school. It is a very positive experience for the kids and we have graduating seniors who will mention the trip as one of the things they remember most about their time at Onaway High School,” said Mix.

Camp Daggett has been providing these memorable and meaningful recreational experiences for the young and young at heart for 87 years. The camp embraces the values of respect, teamwork, caring and fun.

 

As these students embark on their high school careers they spent two days learning about team work and coming together as a class which will face many challenges, enjoy many fun times and build memories to cherish for many years while attending Onaway High School.
