Posen freshman Korynn Hincka earned all-state honors with her fourth placing showing at the Michigan High School Athletic Association track and field finals last Saturday at Jenison High School. ?She did not have a miss until the height she went out at, 5? 2?,? said head coach Chuck Wozniak. ?What?s unique about that is there were 15 jumpers still jumping when they started at 5? 1?. Only five cleared 5? 1?, and she was one of five.? When those five were done jumping, she was the only one that didn?t have a miss.

Wozniak said, ?Her first and third jumps were decent attempts (at 5? 2?). She was a little disappointed, because she had higher expectations. ?I told her early on, as a freshman, to be in the top eight would be a

bonus, and I still feel that way.? Of the final five, three were from the region, including Joburg and Pellston. Hincka finished second at regionals with 5? 4?.

IN THE long jump, senior Corey Hentkowski was up against some exceptional athletes. His best of the day was 19? 3?. ?Corey didn?t hit the board as well as he would have liked,? said Wozniak. ?He was naturally disappointed, he?s a senior, and at his last couple of meets he had been up to 20?.? Hentkowski and junior David Kerr made the 100-meter semifinals before bowing out. ?They ran about as well as they are capable of running,? said Wozniak.

Kerr, a two-time state qualifier in the 100, had an 11.6 in the prelims, while Hentkowski was timed at 11.66. They both finished in the top four and advanced. Kerr bettered his time with a run of 11.55 and Hentkowski ran 11.60. Both finished in seventh, ending their day. Only the top four from each round moved on. ?It?s still an honor to be at state,? the coach said. ?Not many athletes get a chance to do it, and both of these guys have been there twice. David has another year left, so he?ll have a chance to place and make all-state.?
