Army private serving county in Afghanistan

by Peter Jakey, Managing Editor

A 2010 Onaway High School (OHS) graduate is finishing the first of his 10 months of deployment in war-torn Afghanistan. Pvt. Travis Stalker, the son of James and Marie Stalker of Millersburg, has only been in the Army for seven months.

He received his high school diploma last May, and now has joined his fellow servicemen in the war against terrorism, and the battles with the remaining followers of Osama Bin Laden.

Stalker, who committed to join the service during his senior year at OHS, was shipped to Fort Benning, Georgia last August for basic training, before graduating and being sent to Fort Knox, Kentucky.

From there, he received further training in preparation for his tour in the turbulent country. He left for Afghanistan Feb. 13. Thoughts and prayers for Stalker?s safe return, along with the safe return of all of the area service men and women, go out.

The Outlook is interested in hearing about all of the local people who are serving the country and would publish a picture and similar information about their military paths. E-mail the information to Advancepete@speednetllc.com, or contact us and a reporter will follow up.
