Fred Freel helped build the Onaway senior center in 1985 and served on the board for the center, a part of the Presque Isle County Council on Aging (PICCA), for 26 years.

Freel spent 20 of the years on the board serving as the vice president. Last Thursday as a part of the Christmas party at the center, board president Ray Foerster presented Freel with a plaque for his 26 years of service and announced Freel would remain an honorary non-voting member of the board for life.

PICCA executi
ve director Barb Nagi was also present to honor Freel. ?He is a very nice gentleman. There are not many men who are true gentleman, he is just a real nice man. He gave so much to the board, he did so much and he always cared so much. He will be missed on the board. He is just a wonderful guy,? said Nagi.

?Fred did so many things to help with the center. He always had keys and was always willing to help with anything we needed done here at the center. He is a wonderful coordinated man who has done all he was asked to do. He turned 90 last week and retired from the board for health reasons,? said Foerster.

Freel came forward to accept his award after being honored and he and Foerster embraced as Freel thanked him for the honor. Although he may not be an official or voting member of the board Freel will remain an honorary member and keep his keys.
