Local Boy Scouts attend 100th anniversary celebration

High winds, rain and damp weather didn?t deter six local boys and leaders from Pack 3086 and Troop 86 of Onaway from attending a Centennial Camporee at the Combat Readiness Training Center in Alpena.

More than 1,500 scouts from all over the state participated in the event, which began on Sept. 24 and concluded early Sept. 26. The event was organized by the Lake Huron Area Council to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the founding of the Boy Scouts of America

The boys slept in tents they helped pitch and learned how to prepare meals for their campmates while cooking outside on propane stoves.

Some of the activities the boys participated in included an obstacle course, shooting BB guns, 22 rifles, bow and arrows, airplane and airbase tours, fire control demonstrations, and culminated in a spectacular hour-long laser and fireworks show that could make Disney World jealous.

The boys attending from Pack 3086 were Nick Adair, Devin Allsteadt and Brendon Allsteadt. Troop 86 was represented by Casey Watson, Jessie Watson and Ryan Fitzpatrick.
