The excitement level around the Viking football program continues to build with the each victory in the 2010 season. The latest coming on the home field against Brimley, 54-22, where the team put on a show on both sides of the ball, in front of an impressive festival crowd, with 46 unanswered points. The Vikings are off to their first 3-0 start since the undefeated season of 2003. It’s a new feeling for the players, who were still fired up in the postgame huddle. ?They are excited about being 3-0, they are excited about winning the game in front of the home crowd and excited to win on festival weekend,? said head coach Wayne Karsten.

The defense also was up to the task, shutting down the Bays after they marched down the field and scoring on their opening possession. ?We made some serious mistakes in the first half where we couldn?t finish drives,? said Karsten. ?We have to run our offense better. Our defense played well again, but still too many mistakes.?

NEXT STOP will be at Engadine against a team still looking for its first win, and its first points since week one. They lost last week to Pellston, 14-0 and to Bellaire the week before, 37-0. ?It?s always tough making that two hour trip to the U.P.,? Karsten cautioned. It will be Posen’s first game in the new Eight Man Bridge Alliance. Brimley looked like they were going to pick right up where they left off last year when they scored 52 in Posen. They used eight plays to move 65 yards and take an 8-0 lead. Corey Hentkowski took the ensuing kickoff at his own 28, ran to his right, and was off on a race he wasn’t going to lose. The conversion was good and the score was tied at eight. Brimley caught a break when they turned the ball over on downs deep in their own end and Posen fumbled it back at the Brimley 29. On the next play, Nathan Lenard stripped the ball and got it back.

On fourth-and-10, Shane Hentkowski found a wide-open Lucas Litwinski for a 29-yard touchdown down the left sideline. The score was 14-8. After Posen couldn’t capitalize on two fumble recoveries by Martin Mulka and Tyler Kuffel, Brimley had the ball at their own 30-yard line. The quarterback ran to his right and tried to throw it back across the field where Kuffel leaped high in the air and pulled down the interception and ran it in for a score, to give the Vikings a 22-8 lead. That was the score at the half. Karsten believes there were at least three touchdowns in the first half that were left on the field, because drives couldn?t be finished. ON THE opening offensive play of the second half, Corey Hentkowski ripped off another long touchdown run of 61 yards, which opened the game up and shifted the momentum clearly in favor of the Vikes.

> Following a Litwinski fumble recovery, Posen drove to Brimley’s 5 but couldn’t get in. The Bays went three and out and the punt was returned 23 yards by Shane Hentkowski who would run it in from 10 yards out a couple of plays later. Jacob Boyke made a spectacular catch on the conversion for a 30-point Posen lead. Posen’s next touchdown was set up by a 34-yard reception from Shane Hentkowski to Boyke for 34 yards to the Brimley 2. Shane scored again and Mulka would catch the conversion (46-8). The Vikings tacked one more on the board with Lenard throwing a touchdown pass to Shane Hentkowski.
